The Northumberland Dry Stone Wall Festival, an annual
event held in Ontario's Northumberland County on the
Thanksgiving Weekend, provides an
avenue for Dry Stone Wallers from all over the world to gather
together and share their methods, experiences and stories.
This year (2007), three structures were
planned: a SheepShear, a Double Helix and a 50' straight
wall.
John
Shaw-Rimmington is the
mastermind of the Festival and heads up DSWAC,
the Dry Stone Wall Association of Canada. Both the
SheepShear and the Double Helix concepts sprang from his
artistic creativity!
A
special honour is to work with Scottish Master Craftsman Norman
Haddow who arrives from Scotland each year especially for
the festival. Frequently seen working at Balmoral Castle,
Norman has held the appointment for dry stone walling for Queen
Elizabeth II for more than 14 years.

The Festival is held at a different
location each year, is open to the public, and admission is free.
